Year of the F

There is a tradition that dates way back that we Birman breeders follow faithfully on how we name our Birmans. We cycle through the alphabet each year. Currently we are in the "F" year. All Birmans born in the year 2008 will have registered names that begin with the letter “F”. Miadora's first "F" kitten is named FENDI.

2001 was the “Y” year – thus the name of Yves St Laurent, and 2000 was the “X” year – thus the name X-Tal (pronounced Crystal). After our “Z” year, we start back at “A” and so on.

We do indeed have to get very creative! But we may use a “call” name instead of the registered name to refer to our babies. We all will share in making a list of different letter names – because everyone has a lot of different ideas!

My first litter arrived in May 2001 and I named them Yamir Yoda-Cat (his call name is Merlin), Yolivia (her call name is Livvie) and Yves St. Laurent (her call name is Lauren).
